DESCRIPTION:The Legacy of Grandfather Aguayo and our Responsibility\nto Adv
 ance\ndelivered by The Honourable Michael H. Wilson\, Former Canadian\nAmb
 assador to the United States.\nThis lecture was established to recognize t
 he achievements of\nDr. Albert Aguayo\, Professor in the Department of Neu
 rology and\nNeurosurgery\, and founder and former Director of the Centre f
 or\nResearch in Neuroscience at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ.  An outstanding\nscient
 ist\, Dr. Aguayo made a fundamental breakthrough in our\nunderstanding of 
 the nervous system when he demonstrated that\ndamaged nerve cells in the m
 ammalian brain do not die immediately\nand can regenerate under some condi
 tions.  This finding\ncompletely changed one of the most basic paradigms i
 n neuroscience\nand generated a stream of promising research on regenerati
 on in the\nnervous system.  Throughout his career and during his term as\n
 President of the International Brain Research Organization\, Dr.\nAguayo h
 as been a dedicated advocate for the education of students\nin neuroscienc
 e around the world. For his many accomplishments\, Dr.\nAguayo has been re
 cognized with highly prestigious honors\,\nincluding the Gairdner Award\, 
 the Killam Award\, the Order of Canada\nand membership in the Royal Societ
 y of Canada.\nMichael Wilson\, a friend of Dr. Aguayo and a champion of\nn
 euroscience\, had a distinguished career in public life and served\nas Can
 ada’s Ambassador to the United States from 2006-2009. \nHe entered the Hou
 se of Commons in 1979\, serving as Minister of\nFinance and Minister of In
 ternational Trade before leaving elected\noffice in 1993.  Mr. Wilson is k
 nown as a prominent Bay Street\ninvestment executive and an outspoken and 
 tireless advocate on\nmental health issues.  His leadership has had a sign
 ificant\nimpact on the NeuroScience Canada Partnership\, the Centre for\nA
 ddiction and Mental Health\, the Canadian Council for\nPublic-Private Part
 nerships and the Canadian Coalition for Good\nGovernance.\nA reception wil
