 n the School of Urban\nPlanning and the 91˿����Ƶ School of Environment. Afte
 r having studied\nmechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Techno
 logy\,\nMadras\, he spent nine years in diesel engine development in the\n
 Indian truck and bus industry\, before going on to obtain a Master’s\ndegr
 ee in environmental science at The University of Calgary\, and a\nPhD in e
 nvironmental policy at the University of British Columbia.\nHis teaching a
 nd research interests are in the areas of\nenvironmental policy and planni
 ng\; urban infrastructure and\nservices in low-income countries\; alternat
 ive transport fuels\;\nsustainable urban transport\; and environment and d
 evelopment.\nHe is the principal investigator of a SSHRC funded research\n
 program titled “A Critical Assessment of Alternative Transport\nFuels in a
  Rapidly Motorizing Low-income Country: The Case of\nCompressed Natural Ga
 s in India”. Between 2003 and 2005\, he was a\nco-investigator in a resear
 ch project titled “Urban governance and\nenvironmental management: action-
 oriented policy studies on waste\nmanagement in Jabalpur and Raipur”\, fun
 ded by the Shastri-Indo\nCanadian Institute and CIDA. He has delivered sev
 eral invited\npresentations\, including to senior decision makers in India
 \, at the\nCOP-11 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Montrea
 l in\n2005\, and at the Asian Development Bank.\n \n
