It should d raw on a broad cross-section of\nsubstantive areas including: health law\, international human rights\nlaw\, law and poverty\, international trade\, humanitarian law and\nintellectual property.\nAbout the speaker\nLawrence O. Gostin\, an internationally\nacclaimed scholar\, is the Linda D. and T imothy J. O'Neill\nProfessor of Global Health law at the Georgetown\nUnive rsity Law Center\, where he directs the O'Neill Institute\nfor National an d global Health Law.\nHe served as Associate Dean for Research at Georgeto wn\nLaw until 2008. he is also Professor of Public Health at\nthe Johns Ho pkins and Georgetown Universities -\na Collaborating Center of the World H ealth Organization\nand the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is Visiting\nProfessor of Public Health (Faculty of Medical Sciences) and \nResearch Fellow (Centre for Socio-Legal Studies) at Oxford\nUniversity.  He is the Health Law and Ethics Editor\,\nContributing Writer\, and Column ist for the Journal of\nthe American Medical Association.\nIn 2007\, the D irector General of the World Health Organization\nappointed Prof. Gostin t o the International Health Regulations\n(IHR) Roster of Experts and the Ex pert Advisory Panel on Mental\nHealth.\nHe has led major law reform initia tives in the U.S.\, including\nthe drafting of the Model Emergency Health Powers Act (MEHPA) to\ncombat bioterrorism and the 'Turning Point' Model S tate Public\nHealth Act. He is also leading a drafting team on developing a\nModel Public Health Law for the World Health Organization.
