Seahorses will be our entrée into\nthe magical world of marine biodiversi ty\, the extensive catalogue\nof threats to marine habitats\, and the hope ful initiatives to help\nconserve the underwater realm for future generati ons.\nMore information about Dr. Lourie:\nSara Lourie spent a formative pa rt of her childhood in Papua New\nGuinea. It was here that she saw her fir st seahorse\, and it was\nhere\, snorkeling on coral reefs\, that she beca me inspired with her\nlove and fascination for the sea. She has travelled extensively\,\nand written an identification guide to the seahorses of the world.\nHer PhD research focused on the genetic connections among seahors es\nin SE Asia\, and the application of biogeography (the study of the\nsp atial distributions of organisms) to marine conservation.\nPost-PhD she ha s worked on developing a set of Marine Ecoregions of\nthe World\, in colla boration with scientists from Nature\nConservancy\, World Wildlife Fund an d others\, and has recently\nfinished co-authoring a textbook on conservat ion biogeography.
