 dam\nJustice Rosalie Silberman Abella to the Faculty of Law\,\nwhere she w
 ill deliver the 91˿����Ƶ Law Journal Annual Lecture.\nEvery year\, the McGil
 l Law Journal invites a distinguished\nspeaker to deliver a scholarly addr
 ess of significant contemporary\ninterest to members of the 91˿����Ƶ communi
 ty\, the Bar\, the judiciary\nand the general public. This annual event ha
 s attracted notable\nspeakers in years past\, including members of the jud
 iciary\,\ndignitaries\, and legal scholars of international repute. This y
 ear\,\nthe Journal is  delighted to welcome a particularly prominent\nfigu
 re in Canada’s legal community.\nAbout the speaker\nJustice Abella’s perso
 nal story is nothing short of remarkable.\nBorn in a displaced persons cam
 p at the end of the Second World\nWar\, she worked her way through univers
 ity and eventually became a\nlitigator. When first appointed to the Ontari
 o Family Court in\n1976\, Justice Abella was the youngest and first pregna
 nt judge in\nCanadian history. She was appointed to Ontario’s Court of App
 eal in\n1992\, and finally to the Supreme Court of Canada in 2004. Justice
 \nAbella is considered one of Canada's foremost experts in human\nrights l
 aw\, and has also served as Chair of the Ontario Labour\nRelations Board a
 nd the Ontario Law Reform Commission\, as well as a\nboard member of the O
 ntario Human Rights Commission. Furthermore\,\nshe chaired the Ontario Stu
 dy into Access to Legal Services by the\nDisabled. Justice Abella was the 
 sole Commissioner of the 1984\nfederal Royal Commission on Equality in Emp
 loyment\, where she\ncoined the term “employment equity” as part of a stra
 tegy for\nreducing barriers in employment faced by women\, visible minorit
 ies\,\npeople with disabilities\, and Aboriginal peoples in Canada. She\na
 lso taught at 91˿����Ƶ‘s Faculty of Law for a number of years as\nBoulton Vi
 siting Professor. She has been the recipient of 27\nhonourary degrees.\nFo
 llowing the lecture\, there will be a reception in the Atrium\nthat will b
 e generously provided by Osler Hoskin & Harcourt\nLLP. The 2010 Annual Lec
 ture has also received support from\nStudents’ Society of 91˿����Ƶ Universit
