 ut of necessity. Set during the High Middle Ages - a time\nmarked by intel
 lectual revival but still devoutly connected to its\nfaith\, In Extremis e
 xamines the ongoing conflict between\nreason and religion.  At the heart o
 f the story is Pierre\nAbelard\, a medieval philosopher and scholar\, and 
 Heloise\nd’Argenteuil\, a French nun and scholar. Theirs is a true life\nv
 ersion of Romeo and Juliet\; a tragic tale of sublime passion\ndoomed from
  the start\; a passion that is equally profane and\nsacred.  Director Sean
  Carney sees casting young students as\nessential to the nature of the pla
 y - for whom better to embody\nthis energy\, idealism\, and commitment tha
 n a generation of young\nadults who have not yet been asked to compromise 
 their own ideals\nby the cynicism of the modern world.\n
