 ric worldview that\npreceded the Copernican revolution\, the civil law uni
 verse\ncontinues to have the civil code as its centre.\nThe teaching of co
 mparative law makes it the focal point in the\nstudy of civil law systems\
 , while the constitution\, human rights\nand other exogenous forces someti
 mes exert a greater attractive\nforce\, in a legal universe which is filli
 ng itself with manifold\nlaws and codes\, as well as texts and practices i
 nformed by the\ncommon law. Has the civil code become a peripheral source 
 in a\ncentreless universe?\n\nStarting with a brief overview of the situat
 ion in Louisiana\,\ncompared to other regions in the Americas and in Europ
 e\, an attempt\nto model the decline and reformation of systems will be pr
 esented\,\naccompanied by a reflection on the attractive power of the civi
 l\ncode.\n
