However \, there is a\nperiod in between (roughly the first half a billion years) which is\nextremely difficult for us to see because there were no sources of\nlight. These cosmic 'dark ages'' ended when the first stars turned\non \, providing the first view of the somewhat evolved universe.\nUnderstandi ng this period is expected to give new insights into\ndark matter\, dark e nergy\, star formation\, and the physics of the\nearly universe.
