 se of the concepts of representation\nand intention in cross disciplinary 
 studies in the humanities.\nLevinas and Ricoeur considered that our direct
  and intentional\nunderstanding of people and things brought about the ‘ru
 in of\nrepresentation’: we don’t store pictures of things\, we grasp their
 \nmeaning (for us). Is this a process of reaching out or of\nopening up to
  other people and to things? Benjamin’s work\nillustrates how ideas and th
 ings have a life of their own. The\nepistemological problem of representat
 ion thus becomes an\nontological problem of efficacy\, as things (bearing 
 symbols or\nideas) enter into human affairs.\n
