 n Six Songs'\, Professor Daniel Levitin picks up\nwhere his 'New York Time
 s' bestseller 'This Is Your Brain On Music'\nleft off\, blending cutting-e
 dge scientific findings with his own\nsometimes hilarious experiences as a
  musician and music industry\nprofessional. The result is a book that take
 s readers on a journey\nacross human civilization through six different ty
 pes of songs -\nthose that express friendship\, joy\, comfort\, knowledge\
 , religion\nand love. Arguing that music is a core element of our identity
  as\nhumans\, Levitin discusses over 380 songs and gives the theory\nbehin
 d each type.\nOur brain’s structure confirms that\, from its very beginnin
 g\,\nmusic has played a significant role in preserving the emotional\nheri
 tage of our lives and our species. Drawing on extensive\nneurological rese
 arch\, Levitin demonstrates how music (and dance)\nenable humans to bond\,

 volve over thousands of years.\nDaniel Levitin runs the Laboratory for Mus
 ic Perception\,\nCognition and Expertise at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ\, which studies the sci
 ence of\nmusical sound from the neural level all the way to our\nsophistic
 ated emotional responses. Before becoming a research\nscientist\, he was a
  record producer¬¬ and professional musician. He\nhas 17 gold and platinum
  records to his credit as a result of his\nwork with artists such as Stevi
 e Wonder\, Midnight Oil and k.d.\nlang. He has also played professionally 
 with Mel Tormé\, Blue Öyster\nCult and David Byrne\, among others. His aca
 demic work has been\npublished extensively in scientific journals such as 
 'Science and\nNeuron'\, as well as in audio trade journals like 'Grammy\,
