 lue Metropolis presents the initiative this way:\n“How many times have you
  opened a newspaper or switched on the news\nand heard about a writer or a
  journalist who is fired\, harassed\,\narrested\, imprisoned\, exiled\, ki
 lled or otherwise silenced for\ntelling it like it is? The age-old despoti
 c tendency to silence the\nmessenger is clearly taking on new dimensions i
 n a contemporary\nworld that is not only troubled but increasingly\ninterd
 ependent.”\nWriters in Peril 2008 will feature more than a dozen writers i
 n\na series of panel discussions and on-stage conversations\, among\nthem:
  Karen Connelly\, who has been writing about Burma and\nThailand\, the exi
 led Iranian editor and playwright Mansour Koushan\,\nBritish journalist Ad
 am LeBor\, who covered the war in the former\nYugoslavia from his base in 
 Budapest and has recently written about\nthe Middle East and the failings 
 of the United Nations\, as well as\nCastro’s daughter Alina Fernandez\, Se
 negalese writer Ken Bugul\, the\ncontroversial Algerian cartoonist Dilem\,
  German artist\, author and\nformer dissident Anke Feuchtenberger\, Dutch 
 journalist and novelist\nAdriaan van Dis\, the Italian journalist Roberto 
 Saviano who has\nuncovered the Camorra\, and exiled Iraqi poet Saadi Youse
 f\, winner\nof the 2008 Blue Metropolis Arab Literary Prize.\nClick on 'Pr
