 er of dementia cases increases with our aging population\, more and more f
 amilies will be called upon to manage an array of challenging behaviours a
 nd cope with the progression of declining cognitive and physical functions
  of their loved one.\n\nTo educate and empower the community\, the Univers
 ity Women’s Club of Montreal is partnering with 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ’s Facult
 y of Medicine and Health Sciences to offer a free public lecture\, Underst
 anding and Navigating the Journey of Dementia.\n\nLeading experts will com
 e together on April 21 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm to share their knowledge and e
 xpertise and to provide essential information that will help families unde
 rstand and access the resources needed to navigate Alzheimer’s and other d
 ementia-related diseases.\n\nDr. Serge Gauthier\, Director of the Alzheime
 r Disease and Related Disorders Research Unit of the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Res
 earch Centre for Studies in Aging\, will discuss the medical aspects and i
 mpact of the disease including the behavioural and psychological symptoms\
 , and former caregiver and Certified Alzheimer Care Consultant Claire Webs
 ter will share her personal journey and lessons learned. This will be foll

  Neurosurgery\, Psychiatry\, and Medicine\, 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ\n\nDr. Serge
  Gauthier is a Clinical Neurologist specialized in the development of new 
 tools for diagnosis and treatments for people suffering from Alzheimer's d
 isease.\n\nHe was appointed Director of the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Research Cen
 tre for Studies in Aging in 1986. In 1997\, he became a Senior Scientist o
 f the CIHR-Rx&D program (Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Canada
 ’s Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies). His accomplishments ultimatel
 y led to his appointment as Director of the Alzheimer Disease and Related 
 Disorders Research Unit of 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ in 2000.\n\nFurthermore\, he 
 is also the author and editor of several books\, including Management of D
 ementia (2nd ed. - 2009)\, Clinical Diagnosis and Management of Alzheimer’
 s Disease (3rd ed. - 2007)\, Pharmacotherapy of Alzheimer's Disease (1998)
 \, and Alzheimer's Disease in Primary Care (2nd ed. - 1997).\n\nHis intern
 ationally recognized work led to his introduction into the National Order 
 of Quebec (2017) and the National Order of Canada (2014). He received the 
 Prix d’Excellence (2009)\, the Irma Parhad Award (2009) and the Prize Gali
 en (1997) for his continued efforts in improving conditions for those suff
 ering from Alzheimer’s disease.\n\nHis personal interests lie in the manag
 ement of dementia in different stages\, the ethics of research involving i
 ndividuals with Alzheimer’s disease\, and primary prevention strategies ag
 ainst cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s dementia.\n\nMrs. Claire Webster\n
 \nFounder and Ambassador\, Dementia Education Program\, 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵF
 ounder and President of Caregiver Crosswalk Inc.\n\nClaire Webster is a Ce
 rtified Alzheimer Care Consultant (PAC)\, Certified Professional Consultan
 t on Aging (CPCA)\, as well as a conference speaker and educator in the fi
 eld of caring for an individual with dementia.\n\nShe is Founder and Presi
 dent of Caregiver Crosswalk Inc.\, a consulting firm that provides educati
 on and support services to help individuals navigate the journey of Alzhei
 mer’s disease and/or dementia related illnesses.\n\nClaire works in collab
 oration with 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences a
 nd the Division of Geriatric Medicine. She is the Founder and Ambassador o
 f the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Dementia Education Program and 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Cares\, a weekly webcas
 t series designed to support family care partners.\n\nAs a former care par
 tner to her late mother\, Claire has had firsthand experience in dealing w
 ith the overwhelming emotional and physical impact that the disease places
  on the individual and family members.\n\n \n\n \n
