 e taken.\n\nThe Honourable Rosalie Silberman Abella earned a B.A. and an L
 L.B. from the University of Toronto after having studied piano at the Roya
 l Conservatory of Music. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1972 and pra
 cticed civil and criminal litigation until 1976 when she was appointed to 
 the Ontario Family Court. She was appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal
  in 1992 and in 2004\, Justice Abella became the first Jewish woman appoin
 ted to the Supreme Court of Canada. She has written numerous publications\
 , been awarded a great many distinguished awards and has received 35 honou
 rary degrees. In 2016\, she became the first Canadian woman to be awarded 
 an honorary degree from Yale University.\n\nFor more information on Justic
