Montreal Researchers Identify Rare Gene Variation Involved in Bone Disease

A team of international researchers, led by Brent Richards of 91丝瓜视频 and the Lady Davis Institute at the Jewish General Hospital, published their findings Monday of a rare gene variation that offers a protective quality for bone density. 鈥淲hat鈥檚 interesting about this variation is that it has an effect on bone density and fracture twofold larger than anything we鈥檝e found previously 鈥� twofold larger than anything anyone in the world has found previously, I should say,鈥� Richards told the Montreal Gazette. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the first time, to our knowledge, someone has used whole genome sequencing to identify an entirely novel gene that increases susceptibility to any disease.鈥�
