Claudia Macedo Memorial SURE Award in Sustainable Engineering

The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering is proud to announce that Heather Mantel, a U1 undergraduate student in the Materials Engineering Co-op Program, is this year鈥檚 recipient of the "Claudia Macedo Memorial SURE Award in Sustainable Engineering". The project is under the supervision of Professor Raynald Gauvin and the research topic is:聽聽"measuring physical parameters of the x-ray detector鈥�.聽 The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering raised funds to endow this SURE Traineeship as a memorial to Claudia Macedo, a student who tragically passed.聽

In Heather鈥檚 words:

鈥淚 never met Claudia. However, from stories I鈥檝e heard she was type of person everyone would have loved: outgoing, kind, passionate, and motivated; she was everything an engineer should be. I am thankful of her family and the department for giving me the opportunity to do something that I hope she would have been proud to call her legacy.鈥�
